Sometimes our desire to help the children and families we work with at our centers can create professional dilemmas.  How involved can we get?  Sometimes, our emotional experiences with a family or caregiver may make us back off or disengage from the relationship.  We may get too close or be too disconnected for our work to be effective.  This three hour workshop aims to help you understand the legal, ethical and professional constraints that essential to the maintenance of healthy, safe, trauma-informed and empowering relationships between you and the families you serve.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, learners will be able to:

1. Understand the ethical, legal, and professional codes that make boundary maintenance a necessity.
2. Understand that relationship building is essential to effective outcomes for children and families.
3. Discuss why teachers and parents may be susceptible to boundary compromises.
4. Integrate a 5-point strategy for decision-making when boundary compromises arise.
